1/365 - Elaine Mai - Galway
We’re starting this series on the first day of January 2026 with my darling friend, Elaine Mai. In this series I’ll mainly be meeting new people, but I’d also like to introduce you to some special folk in my life.
I will admit, that I kinda chose to shoot Elaine on the 1st of January as I knew she’d be very forgiving of my NYE hangover (and her wife makes amazing comfort food). However, the more important reason I’m featuring her today is that she’s going to be a huge part of the production of this series.
I’ve featured Elaine on my instagram many times before. I’ve photographed her as she’s played to thousands of people in festival fields all over Ireland. Today though, I meet her in her new home in Galway and we take a casual sunset snap in her garden.
All the music you hear in these podcasts over the year will be made by Elaine. She’ll guide us through the seasons as we travel around collecting stories and sounds. She’ll weave those recordings into her incredible art. Fingers crossed that at the end of the year we’ll be able to publish her beautiful soundscape as an accompanying vinyl to the book.
