188/365 - Betsy Cornwell, Carraroe, Co. Galway.
Betsy is a writer, a single mother, and a survivor of domestic abuse. She left her home in America and moved to Ireland where she married an Irish man and had a son. When the marriage ended, she found herself in a very difficult position and she turned to domestic abuse services. She stayed with friends, found her feet and when she was stable, knew it was time to give back.
She crowdfunded to buy a property which would house herself and her son, but would also be an artist residence space that she could offer to other single mothers who were in need of respite. She bought The Old Knitting Factory in 2020 and began her journey in Carraroe.
